Welcome to
The Homeschool Club

A Place for Students to Socialize and Create
At our Homeschool Club, we believe in providing a fun, safe, and stimulating environment where kids can learn, play, and make new friends. Created specifically for homeschool families, our student-led drop-off educational program is designed so every member can explore their interests and develop new skills. Our approach is inspired by the Montessori and Sudbury learning philosophies.

Activities and Programs
Our program caters to a variety of interests and is targeted to upper elementary and middle school students. Here’s a glimpse of what your child can look forward to:
  • Creativity and Arts: Let your child's imagination soar with our creative projects. From painting and drawing to crafting and building to costumes and skits, our learning space aims to inspire creativity and innovation by providing a wide variety of materials and supplies for Club members to work with.
  • STEM Activities and Maker Space: Kids love to create, and we make it easy to build and design. We offer engaging science, technology, engineering, and math activities that make learning fun and interactive.
  • Outdoor Play: Fresh air and physical activity are essential for healthy development. Our spacious outdoor area is perfect for games, gardening, and exploration. It is available anytime the students choose to use it, and encouraged during the lunch hour.
  • Leadership and Cooperation: Our unique play-based focus on creativity will develop leadership qualities and cooperative skills that are often lacking in the structured environment found in most traditional learning environments.
  • Group Games and Social Time: Building social skills is a key part of our program. Board games and activities that encourage teamwork, communication, and friendship are available for the kids to choose.
  • Reading: Students can foster a love for reading at any time with our quiet reading corners, where they can discover new worlds through books or just take a break from the group at any time they choose.
  • Time to Dine: None of that "fifteen minute lunch" nonsense! Know your child is developing a healthy relationship with food, because they can eat any time they choose, and they are encouraged to spend an hour on the patio or outdoors for lunch, socializing, and play.
  • Coding: The schedule includes optional student-led coding projects on Scratch during after-club hours (1pm-3pm).

Club Schedule and Commitment
Our club meets on Fridays from 9am to 1pm.  This schedule provides a consistent and engaging routine that fits seamlessly into your homeschooling plans. For families needing additional hours, we offer optional extended hours until 3pm (advance scheduling required), giving Club members more time to enjoy our activities and giving parents more flexibility. See daily schedule here. Additional club days may be added in the future.

Why Choose Our Homeschool Club?
  • Safe and Nurturing Environment: Your child's well-being is our top priority. Our club space is designed to give the members lots of choices for how to play and learn, based on their own interests. Many students (we'd argue all students!) learn best in this type of supportive student-led environment.
  • Community and Connection: Our club fosters a sense of community among homeschool families, providing a space for members to connect and support each other. Our club is a welcoming and inclusive environment. We also understand and support the unique needs of neurodivergent, gifted, and twice exceptional (2e) students.
  • Small Size: Compared to other homeschool learning communities, our homeschool club is meant to facilitate meaningful social connections. We have a maximum club size of 8 (compared to 15 for classes at many centers, and 30+ for some programs), and we aim to have  4-6 students in attendance on most days.
  • Reliable Schedule: You can rely on the club hours to take care of your important work or personal schedule needs. Afternoon hours are based on availability and with advance notice. We will primarily follow the DCS calendar for 2024-25, starting in October 2024; our Club calendar will be provided at the beginning of each semester.
  • Flexible Hours: Our club hours make it easy for the kids to have a good time and for the parents to have time to care care of other things. Our optional afternoon extended hours provide flexibility for parents and additional enrichment opportunities for students.
  • Monthly Contract: The Homeschool Club is based on a monthly agreement, giving families convenience and flexibility. There is a co-op option as well as a drop off service. Contact Alegra to discuss details.
  • Convenient Location: We are centrally located in the neighborhood of Clairemont in San Diego. We are one block away from Clairemont Town Square, where parents can get work done (or meet a friend) at Arely's French Bakery. We are also two blocks away from the North Clairemont Library.
  • Experienced and Caring Support: Alegra has over 20 years of experience in developing and teaching a variety of educational programs, including 5 years of hands on science education and curriculum development at UC Davis and UC San Diego. She has also designed and run multiple summer camps for elementary through high school students. She knows how to create an environment that invites youth to engage, play, and learn on their own terms. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas in evolution, ecology, and conservation biology and a Master of Fine Arts from San Diego State University in creative writing. She also holds multiple certificates in holistic health coaching through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute, and she is extremely well read on a variety of education philosophies. This love of learning is an important part of the Club ethos.
