A Little about me...

I'm Alegra Loewenstein, a prolific writer on all topics related to health, wellness, self development, personal improvement, and living your best life. Yup, all of that!

I am also the creator of Small Steps, Big Magic: Crafting a Life That Sparkles. This is a pagan inspired health coaching program, that is designed to follow the wheel of year for a richer, more powerful way to create the healthy life you crave, and to find your ideal natural weight by tuning in to the rhythm of the seasons.

With my program it is actually easy to step off the emotional eating roller coaster, and you don't have to give up the chips, snacks, sweets, treats, or chocolates, either! 

My signature program is designed to make sure you slow down, trust and honor your body, and when you do that, you can easily make healthy choices, reach and maintain your ideal natural weight weight, have energy throughout the day, and look and feel your best! 

I absolutely LOVE working with people just like you!

Why I Do This

I know how it feels to be told to change what you eat. In my twenties I was told to stop eating sugar. When this advice was first given to me by a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner, I resisted and denied. I gave all the reasons why my diet was healthy. I proclaimed a love of all sweets. And yet, ultimately, I had to acknowledge that my sugar consumption was more than a reasonable amount.

In my case, I had developed recurring throat infections and mystery wheezing. Western doctors simply prescribed antibiotics and sent me on my way, despite the fact that lab tests came back negative. At the time I was confused and frustrated. I began to seek alternative medicine approaches to help solve this acute issue. I can now say I look to these infections as a blessing in disguise because they ultimately were the factor that pushed me to seek true change with my emotional eating habits. Instead of "swearing off sugar" yet again (and yet again failing), I had to go deeper and understand the emotions I was stuck in that were causing my cravings in the first place. 

(I had also gained about 15 pounds, which isn't that much, but I was in my early twenties and naturally on the lean side, so while the weight was not my primary drive to change my habits, it was putting me on an unhealthy path. I also was disproportionally judgmental of this weight gain and obsessed with losing it, and it was one more way I felt like a failure with my inability to quit eating sugar.) 

Trust is the Secret ingredient

It took me three realizations to begin to change this lifelong habit. First I had to put trust in my TCM doctor. I knew she had my best interest in mind, and I knew she was looking at the “whole” me.

Second I had to admit that change was necessary, and that it would be hard, but my trust in my TMC doctor gave me the confidence to trust in myself.

Finally I had to actually change, and trust that I really could. I started with baby steps. A list of sugar alternatives (and I don't mean aspartame); I discovered ways to love myself and be my own friend without eating sugar.

This Feels Like Magic

Did I instantly replace a sugar craving with an alternative off my list? No, of course not. But if I could do it once a week, that was the beginning.  In the beginning recognizing the trigger behind the craving was hard, but as I recognized what was BEHIND the sugar desire, I could replace the sugar with an appropriate alternative.

I also know how your inner child can bristle when she is afraid of never getting sugar (or insert your favorite food here ____) again! That is why my program, and the approach in ALL of my books, includes ZERO restrictions whatsoever! Embrace all parts of yourself and know that your body will guide you to the right answer when you have the freedom and support to do so. 

It really does feel MAGICAL when food no longer has control over you, and decided what to eat (or not eat) STOPS feeling like an epic battle.  

​Sustaining your health and tuning into your body is just the beginning! As we go through the wheel of the year, you will tune into the world around you, be more connected to nature and your loved ones, and find success comes more easily.

As a Health Coach, I have earned several different certifications through organizations I trust and respect. With a background in science (B.S. in Biology), and a former career in science education, I value the strong scientific foundation provided in my certification through the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute and the Health Sciences Academy. I balance this background with an intuitive approach that uses YOUR body as the guide for YOUR life.

The Dr. Sears program is called "L.E.A.N. Health Coaching," which stands for Lifestyle Exercise Attitude Nutrition. You will find we cover all of these topics in my coaching programs, and of course in all my books, with an emphasis on your life and your relationship with food.  

​Through the Health Sciences Academy I am certified as a Nutritional Therapist, meaning I focus on supporting my client's improved quality of life through choices that affect food and nutrition. 

I just have to tell you, my joint pain is almost completely gone.  It’s insane.  All the joint pain in my elbows and fingers is basically gone.  It’s a miracle!  Or maybe just good advice.  Either way, I’m thrilled! ~Wendy U.
